The work Confesionario arises from the need to continue an exploration of intimacy and its relationship with different spaces. An open-air, outdoor confessional makes it possible to raise certain questions in this regard. How does the act of exposing oneself, while at the same time remaining hidden from the eyes of the person receiving our secrets and confessions, affect our notion of intimacy? If we think about certain elements of ecclesiastical space—such as the traditional confessional—where secrecy is safeguarded in an enclosed, dark environment, an artificial mausoleum of sin, how are those elements transformed when placed in nature? In what ways does the place of confession influence people’s perceptions? In this performance, the artist and the audience will exchange their secrets in plain view, protected only by the intimacy of the gesture
- Take a piece of paper from the glass chalice.
- Sit on the rug placed in front of the tree, with your back against the trunk.
- Write a secret on the paper and fold it in half.
- Hold the paper in your right hand and, without lifting your back from the trunk, stretch out your arm to reach the artist’s hand and give them the paper. Receive the artist’s secret.
- Once the exchange is complete, let the next participant take their turn, and don’t forget to take with you the secret you have been given.
