Lives and works in Madrid at OB Studio

Montserrat Camargo’s practice seeks to explore the human experience through research into the playful, ritualistic, and gestural nature of intimate and everyday acts. By liberating human activity from its usual practical and utilitarian purpose, she attempts to glimpse what lies hidden beneath normalized reality, which thus becomes a space of play where the symbolization and sacralization of experience become possible once again.

A central aspect of her work is the analysis of women’s roles in society, particularly as keepers of profane and ancestral knowledge. From a feminine perspective closely connected to ritual and symbolism, she carries out her creative activity from within the collective, the domestic, and the artisanal. Some of her artistic interventions have taken place in different territories, allowing her to develop a personal affective cartography through the tracing of traditions and testimonies.

Her work incorporates media such as photography, video, installation, and writing to develop performative research projects in which both the process and the audience become essential parts of the artwork. Her work constantly reflects on the possibility that every human action is, in essence, a form of performance.
